Baby Hell is Back!

That’s right Baby Hell is finished! This creepy little creature was created by artist L’amore Supreme. My homie Narciso passed it to me a few months ago to paint up. Check out the before pics here.

Standing at 6 inches tall, Baby Hell is a lot larger scale than what I’m used to working with (usually 28MM). I procrastinated painting him, fearing all the hours of work it would take to complete. He stood above my TV for months just taunting me. Mocking me! However, once I got down to business, I really enjoyed the process and it took only one weekend full of Battlestar Galactica episodes to finish.
I could have gone with super smooth blends or used an airbrush to make the final result more refined but opted not to. This figure is full of character and fun and deserved an equally characterful paint style. So I kept the style painterly and a little messy which I think makes the entire thing look more cartoon-like.
This is the first vinyl model I’ve ever painted and it won’t be the last. I had a great time working in this scale and genre. Plus working on this scale was easy on my hands and eyes ((I only had to use my Special Ops goggles once :P). I must buy more vinyl models! Maybe I’ll try sculpting up my own in the future…hmm. Curses, so many ideas so little time!
