Reach Out and Touch Someone

Here’s a sniper I recently finished for my Haqqislam army. I’ve already tried painting this model twice and I was having the hardest time working out the color scheme. I considered scrapping the project and leaving  it in hobby limbo; never to feel the unnatural glow of game store, fluorescent lighting.

After trying a few “outfits” on him (including mostly khaki and mostly black) I went with this version. It’s not very camouflage (like his abilities suggest) but I didn’t want to make him look like a cliché sniper. This version looks good with the rest of my Haqqislam color scheme and, thanks to the extra use of brown, stand out from a distance.

As much as I hated painting this model, I’m pretty satisfied with the final result. Which is the case with most of my favorite models; the longer and more frustrating the process, the sweeter the reward. I read that one on a fortune cookie. Your Lucky numbers are 4, 8, 15, 16, 23 and 42.

    • Thanks for the positive comment! For the Khaki, I started with a basecoat of P3 Trollblood Highlight, then gave it a wash of P3 Ironhull Gray, and ended with a highlight of P3 Trollblood Highlight mixed with P3 Morrow White.

      • Oh thankyou so much! I have a couple of these paints, and one….maybe similar. I might have to give this effect a go myself 😀 Thankyou!!

      • No problem. I’ll do a tutorial on this color scheme sometime soon. Keep painting! 🙂

  1. I’d love to see a tutorial on how to paint these guys! I hope you don’t mind that I’m planning on totally stealing your amazing idea – imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, after all XD

    • Thanks! I’ve been wanting to do a tutorial on these for sometime now. This color scheme has been a lot of fun to work with. When you do your version, please make sure to send me some pics. 🙂
